1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).
2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.
3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.
Cialis (tadalafil) can interact with certain foods and beverages, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Here are the key drug-food interactions to be aware of:

In the United States, more than half of all prescriptions for erectile dysfunction drugs are filled by private doctors. The number of Americans seeking treatment for erectile dysfunction has nearly doubled since 1998, to nearly 300,000, according to a study published in the September 21 issue of the American Journal of Medicine. The study found that men who filled a total of 18,000 prescriptions for Cialis in 1998 had a 59% greater risk of developing erectile dysfunction than men who were not taking the medication.
“The numbers are alarming,” said Dr. David Shkolnik, a urology professor at the University of Utah and the lead investigator of the study, which was supported by the National Institutes of Health and the U. S. Food and Drug Administration.
“They are alarming, and we have to recognize that these numbers are in large part because the FDA is the only regulator that regulates these things and it is not the first to do so,” Shkolnik said. “There is little transparency in prescribing these things.”
Although the drug market in the United States is growing, Shkolnik said that men who are taking the drug Cialis have an 84% higher chance of developing erectile dysfunction than men who are not taking the medication, even though they have erectile dysfunction. That is why they are more likely to have prescriptions filled for erectile dysfunction than those who do not.
“The number of prescriptions for Cialis is increasing,” Shkolnik said. “You would think that if you were prescribed Viagra, the number of prescriptions would increase, but it hasn’t.”
In addition to the study, other studies have found that men who take Cialis also have an 84% higher chance of developing erectile dysfunction than men who are not taking the medication. That is because of their unique genetic makeup and their inability to achieve or sustain an erection, Shkolnik said. According to the, erectile dysfunction is the inability to achieve or sustain an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse.
“If you’re taking Viagra and you can’t achieve an erection, then you’re not going to want to take Viagra,” Shkolnik said. “So you need to be careful about how much you’re taking.”
Dr. Edward M. Weisig, an urology professor at the University of Utah, and other urology experts, who interviewed Dr. Weisig, a professor of urology at the University of Utah, said that if you’re taking Cialis, it’s important to know that your blood pressure is high and you need to be able to maintain an erection. If you are taking Cialis, the medicine may not be effective, but if your blood pressure drops, it can be dangerous.
